At the West Bend Library Board meeting, Library Director Steve reported a $5,000 "ideas to action" grant to support gardening and cooking programs, a $3,000 donation, and several facility updates, including corrected door hardware that now allows staff to secure a safe room.
Steve said the grant will support programming developed in partnership with local partners and noted a separate $200 check for a program at 822 Frederick Ola. He also told board members that staff and city maintenance identified that doors into the circulation/office area had been installed with locks on the outside and that the city—s maintenance team reversed the doors and replaced or refit hinges so staff can now lock the room from the inside.
"We realized that the doors were on backwards... it's been like that for 24 years since the library has been built," Steve said, describing the correction. He added that the remediation was completed by maintenance and should provide staff a safe place to exit and secure themselves if necessary.
The board also heard that Eagle Scout projects have added raised beds and that a replacement training table has been ordered. Members asked about policy follow-ups (patron hold policy) and the timeline for implementing recommended security upgrades (fobs and cameras), which Steve said are on next year—s CIP for funding.
