Council accepts two donated sculptures for River Shores and Riverside Park

The Common Council on Oct. 21 accepted two donated sculptures from the West Bend Friends of Sculpture, one titled Ribbon (valued at $75,000) proposed for the Center Triangle Island between Veterans Avenue and Village Greenway in the River Shores development, and Rib Mountain (valued at $75,000) proposed for Riverside Park north of the tennis courts.
Parks staff (Mike, Speaker 5) told the council placement costs would be paid by the Friends of Sculpture and that the Friends would accept responsibility for future maintenance. Michelle Nash (Speaker 13) said the pieces were decommissioned from an Eau Claire sculpture park and are large vertical and horizontal works (about 12–14 feet), and that the Friends would hold them on a five-year loan with first right of refusal if the city later chose not to keep them. The city will place concrete slabs for installation; staff said the Park & Rec Commission unanimously supported the donation.
Council members asked whether images had been shared; staff said pictures were not included in the meeting memo but that the pieces are displayed on Sarograph property and available for viewing. The council approved acceptance of the donations by voice vote.
