KCAD presents annual report; updates on racing and gaming, sculpture walk and housing projects

Representatives from the Keith County Area Development (KCAD) presented their annual report and highlighted staff and program updates. KCAD introduced new communications coordinator Gentry Welch and noted that business-retention and expansion visits for 2024 are complete. The office said it will post the annual report on the website and continue outreach to small businesses that applied for Grow Nebraska support.
KCAD staff reported that Ogallala is participating in SWAN (Sculpture Walks Across Nebraska), with sculptures to be placed in mid-May; the initiative was done in partnership with the Ogallala Regional Arts Council. KCAD also provided an update on local racing and gaming activity: new property owners in Keith County are engaged, but timeline and permitting are uncertain and the state Racing and Gaming Commission controls licensing decisions. KCAD emphasized construction and licensing remain subject to state approvals and city permitting.
On housing, KCAD said two active single-family home loans exist in Ogallala and one loan is listed for sale. Additional DED grant funds are pending and require completion of a third-party financial review by AMGL before KCAD can request the next round of funds to issue more construction loans.
No formal board action was taken on KCAD items during the meeting.
