Parks staff report: memorial bench program resumes; zoo exhibits and trail projects progressing

Parks staff provided updates on several ongoing projects at the Aug. 12 meeting. Chad said the memorial bench program, which had been paused because of supply chain issues, is restarting and five sites are being prepared for new benches. "We have 5 sites we're currently working on," he said, and staff is exploring new vendor options to improve turnaround.
Chad also highlighted progress on construction around the bear and fox exhibits at Menominee Park Zoo and said staff are coordinating landscaping and path restoration; the zoo exhibits are moving toward completion and animals are currently in quarantine prior to arrival.
Staff also reported trail work at South Park (an overlay between tennis courts and horseshoe courts) and that a public notice will be posted about a section reopening. Travis updated members about recent median plant bed installations on Highway 44 and said a larger roundabout plant project will begin in mid‑September with minor traffic disturbances; work includes partnerships with the Convention Visitors Bureau, Community Foundation and private donors.
Board members expressed appreciation for the completed landscaping and the visible improvements in parks and around the city.
