A resident representing a condominium association near the Steiger boat launch told the Advisory Parks Board on Aug. 12 that the group is asking the city to extend its slow/no‑wake zone on the Fox River from the Oshkosh Avenue Bridge downstream to the Wisconsin Street Bridge.
Ray, a Parks staff member, said the city would need to update its local ordinance to change the boundaries and that the Department of Natural Resources would review the request. He told the board he expects the item to appear on the board's September agenda for public comment and discussion.
Board member Steve cautioned that a longer no‑wake stretch could lengthen river transit times and affect businesses that rely on river traffic, saying that such a change could reduce visits to downtown waterfront restaurants. Staff said they would notify the U.S. Coast Guard and the county sheriff's department as part of the process and reiterated that public input would be sought at the next meeting.
No formal action was taken at the Aug. 12 meeting; staff flagged the process steps and a future board discussion in September.
