The Wyoming Board of Education approved the superintendent's recommendation to hire Sarah McMullen as the district's high school assistant principal and authorized up to five transition days before an August 1 start. The personnel action was included in the superintendent's report and approved by roll call.
The superintendent introduced McMullen to the board and described her background: 13 years as a high-school English teacher, four years as a district K'12 literacy coach, and two years serving as an assistant principal in the Northwest school district. The superintendent told the board the interview committee praised McMullen's classroom experience, restorative disciplinary approach, data-driven focus and coaching abilities.
McMullen, who attended the meeting with family, thanked the board and said her first impression of the district was that staff are "laser focused on that student perspective" and that she looked forward to working with district leaders and learning from the community. She said she was "really excited to be working with Michael" (a district colleague) and to "bring a little bit of our flare to this environment."
The personnel recommendation was approved as part of the superintendent's report vote; board members present recorded affirmative votes during the roll call. The approval includes up to five paid transition days for McMullen to partner with district staff ahead of the August start date.
Board President and the superintendent said the district will follow its standard onboarding and transition practices for new administrators.
