Council authorizes $14,761 fuel-system purchase and RFQ for pickleball-court coating

The Smithfield Town Council authorized two public-works actions: a purchase to replace the DPW fueling-card system and authorization to solicit quotes for pickleball court color coating.
Gene Allen, Director of Public Works, told the council the current fueling system at the DPW is beyond its useful life and that the digital display is no longer serviceable. He recommended purchasing a replacement fuel-card system from Trask Petroleum Equipment Company of Providence for $14,761.00; the council moved, seconded and approved the purchase.
Allen also asked the council to authorize an RFQ for the color-coating surface that will be applied to the previously approved asphalt for the pickleball courts. He said the RFQ is being issued now so a contractor can be under contract by the end of the year and the coating can be applied in spring after the final asphalt course cures.
Council action: Motions to approve both the Trask purchase and the RFQ were made and carried by voice vote.
