Fairborn City Schools reports 12,374 summer meals, updates facilities and hears seniors’ New York trip plan

At its Sept. 5 meeting, Fairborn City Schools reported serving 12,374 summer meals through Ohio’s Summer Food Service Program, received a facilities update on the high school punch list and Baker demolition planning, and heard senior class officers request approval for a March New York City trip.
Fairborn City Schools on Sept. 5 told the school board it served 12,374 meals this summer through Ohio’s Summer Food Service Program and detailed the locations and logistics used to reach children across Greene County.
Emmy Brown, supervisor of food services, told the board the program served free reimbursable meals to youth ages 1–18 at nine sites in Fairborn and one site in Xenia during June and July and that there was no proof of residency or registration required. Brown said travel teams and collaboration with transportation increased outreach, and that payments for the program are not charged to families.
In facilities remarks, Rodney Pagano said the primary school paving and striping were completed to start the year, and he reported progress on the new high school project punch list. Pagano said the project’s punch list originally held about 6,400 items; roughly 1,500 were resolved in the most recent period and he estimated about 509 items remain. He also said athletic facility work continues and that he will meet with Valerie Montoya of the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission to plan abatement and demolition for Baker; he said he will report back at the next board meeting.
Senior class officers presented a proposed educational trip to New York City for March 26–30 (class of 2025). Class president Emma Miller and fellow officers described planned visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Summit One Vanderbilt, the Statue of Liberty and a Broadway show. The students said the trip cost would be $900 per student, with monthly payments starting in October and fundraising opportunities (including a World's Finest Chocolates sale) to reduce individual cost.
The board acknowledged multiple community donations, including gift bags and volunteers from Be Hope Church, book bags and supplies from Fairborn BFW Post 6861, and several monetary donations to the turf fund and other district needs. The board also noted a request to prepare a tribute resolution for bus driver Brenda Gevidon, who is retiring after 29 years of service.
District officials said they will continue to monitor summer program outreach and facilities progress and will return with more details at upcoming meetings.
