Council accepts follow-on Learn365 funding to expand out-of-school learning

The Town Council voted Aug. 5 to accept follow-on funding for the Learn365 program after a presentation by Kate Glass, Executive Assistant and Director of Communications. Glass said the town received RIDE funding to support out-of-school learning and summarized Year 1 accomplishments: the program reached “over 430 students” and delivered more than “5,600 hours” of out-of-school programming focused mainly on elementary and middle school students and targeted supports for Title I schools.
Glass described Year 2 plans that include an emphasis on financial literacy and efforts to increase participation in specific schools; she said follow-on funding will support programming during the coming school year and next summer. When asked whether the $189,000 figure circulating in Q&A was the total grant amount, Glass replied, “That’s the total grant amount.” (Transcript also records an earlier statement that the town had received $350,000 from RIDE to support school-time out-of-school programs; the two figures were discussed during Q&A.)
Council members praised staff and moved to accept the grant; the motion passed by recorded 'ayes' in the meeting transcript. Staff said they will report back with additional program details and outcomes.
