The Tallmadge City Council on Nov. 14 voted unanimously (6‑0) to decline requesting a hearing before the Ohio Division of Liquor Control on a proposed transfer of an existing beer, wine and liquor license for Himalayan Kitchen LLC at 12 Tallmadge Circle.
Law Director Raber explained the council has no authority to approve the state license and can only request that the state hold a hearing; historically the city has declined hearings when there are no public‑safety concerns. A representative for Himalayan Kitchen told council the business seeks to continue the previously authorized beer, wine and liquor sales and that their scheduled hours are currently 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Staff reports from Police Chief Bohan and the fire department were cited as indicating no criminal activity or incidents at the location.
Councilmember Bullis asked whether a motion was required to decline the hearing; council moved and seconded that they would not request the hearing, and the clerk recorded a 6‑0 vote in favor of declining the hearing request.
