Hopkinton council elects leadership, confirms appointees and deputy clerk through 2026

The Hopkinton Town Council reorganized leadership and confirmed several appointments at its Dec. 2 meeting. Council members nominated and approved 'Mike' as council president and 'Bob' as vice president by voice vote, then returned to their seats.

Councilors voted to retain current appointed officers — a slate that includes the town solicitor, zoning solicitor, planning solicitor, prosecution counsel and probate judge — after the town solicitor congratulated the new council and voiced support for the planning department’s ongoing ordinance updates.

Council president announcements followed: members volunteered and were assigned as liaisons to an array of boards and commissions, including the affordable housing partnership, conservation commission, historic district commission, economic development commission, planning board, police commission, recreation commission and the zoning board of review.

Separately, the council approved an appropriation to make Sydney Fernandez deputy town clerk through Nov. 2026. The motion to provide the appropriation passed by voice vote. The council also voted to table consideration of reelecting David Agustina to the juvenile hearing board and the conservation commission to the Dec. 16 meeting.

The body accepted the resignation of Degas Augustine from the Wood Pocket Tuck Scenic River stewardship during the same meeting. Several routine procedural and ceremonial items — including oath ceremonies and a birthday recognition for Maria Christina Levine — were also recorded.

Next steps: committee assignments take effect and the council will revisit the tabling of one reappointment and the inclusionary zoning ordinance at the Dec. 16 meeting.
