The Tiverton Town Council voted to amend the resolution governing the North End and Industrial Park Business Advisory Subcommittee to remove the requirement that the subcommittee chair be a councilor.
Anne Lawton, a member of the North Tiverton Revitalization Subcommittee, had urged the council to allow the subcommittee to choose its own chair, saying local members have worked together for a year and wished to select leadership from among themselves. "I would ask the town council to let us decide who our chair is," Lawton said.
Council President Dimadares and other members praised the work of current chair Mike Burke and said letting the subcommittee choose a non-council chair would allow continuity and community leadership. A motion to amend the resolution was made and seconded and approved by voice vote.
Council members noted that the change will require a resolution amendment and that procedural steps would be scheduled so the new council and subcommittee can formalize chair selection.
