USDA increases disaster-recovery award for Tiverton landfill; funds to be released soon, town says

Town administrators told the Tiverton Town Council on Oct. 28 that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has increased a disaster-recovery-related award for landfill work following additional justification and an external engineer’s validation.
At a previous meeting the town had reported a $962,000 authorization; administrators said they provided further detail and documentation requested by USDA and that the award was raised to roughly $1.41 million. Staff noted one item remained ineligible because it was a reimbursable cost and another required additional resiliency justification, but overall the increase will significantly reduce the town’s need to tap ARPA funds or local revenue for the project.
An outside engineer (named in the transcript) and town staff met with USDA to supply requested documentation; the administrator said the final letter had not yet been received but the town expected funding to be released by the following week. Councilors discussed cashflow and whether ARPA or casino/power-plant funds would need to be used in the interim; staff said they would provide final accounting of what remains to be funded.
Council thanked staff and consulting engineers for the work that led to the increased award.
