Council approves contracts, purchases and an appointment in unanimous votes

- Drainage improvements: Approved use of the miscellaneous repair and construction services contract with George Sherman Sand & Gravel Company Inc. to complete drainage improvements to a 12-inch storm drain on Bristol Road for $49,000.
- Fuel contracts: Approved a one-year extension for unleaded gasoline and diesel with Santa Buckley Energy using per-gallon increments over the OPD oil price daily index, and approved use of the State Master Price Agreement to purchase liquid propane from Quality Propane at the BPM Selkirk posting plus $0.246 per gallon for Sept. 2024 through Sept. 2025 (with an optional one-year renewal).
- Building repairs: Approved phase two renovations/upgrades to the West Tower second floor by Abcor Restoration Co. for $26,470 using the general construction services agreement.
- Urban renewal zoning update: Awarded a $31,100 contract to Weston & Sampson Engineers Inc. to consolidate and update conflicting urban renewal ordinances; Tierney said the work is funded through a municipal technical assistance grant from the state and will include public hearings.
- Hazard mitigation plan: Adopted a resolution approving the final draft of the town’s multi-hazard mitigation strategy (Strategy for Reducing Risks from Natural Hazards in Narragansett, Rhode Island).
- Personnel: Appointed Sarah Masson to the town clerk position (Masson has served in town offices since Feb. 2014 and as acting town clerk during a vacancy); council approved filling any subsequent vacancies created by that promotion.
All motions were made and seconded with the recorded passage typically noted as "Motion by Councilor Lawler, seconded by Councilor Kopeck" and recorded as passing 5-0.
The council also advanced technical ordinance changes (zoning definitions and rooming/boarding-house language) as first readings and received planning-board recommendations on file. No contested votes were recorded at the meeting.
