Friends of Knott's Head Farm update: boardwalk repairs, stone walls and Bridal Garden work

Tom Hoagland, president of the Friends of Knott's Head Farm, gave the council a multi-part progress report on stewardship work at the Kanachit/Knott's Head Farm property. Hoagland described five priorities completed or underway: replacement of deteriorating boardwalks through Eagle Scout projects; repair of three stone-wall sections funded by a $10,000 Rhode Island Foundation grant and $4,700 from Friends of Knott's Head Farm (total masonry cost $14,700); installation of two contemplation benches at Little Neck Pond paid for by two donors ($2,700 total); planting roughly 60'70 trees donated by the Rhode Island Tree Association; and early-stage work on a Bridal Garden that has required soil pH remediation before vegetable planting.
Hoagland detailed volunteer labor, before-and-after improvements and the need for additional grant funding to repair more boardwalks and replace perimeter fencing near the South County Museum. He encouraged community volunteers and Eagle Scout projects to help with future boardwalk replacements.
Hoagland closed by thanking donors and volunteer crews and asking the council and public to support future grant applications and stewardship efforts.
