Council approves $575,000 RIDOT road program participation and $199,000 playground purchase

The Narragansett Town Council voted unanimously on Oct. 21 to participate in the Rhode Island Department of Transportation's 2025 municipal road and bridge program to apply approximately $575,000 toward road reconstruction on Marine Drive, Old Point Judith Road and Mollusk Drive. The motion authorized the town manager, finance director and solicitor to sign the RIDOT contract.
In the same meeting the council approved a Parks and Recreation purchase and installation contract with M.E. O'Brien & Sons Inc. for new playground equipment at the Dominic Cristoforo Playground for $198,911.60. Councilors approved the purchase by voice vote with no public opposition.
Council also approved procurement of winter road salt from two vendors under the State Master Price Agreement (MidAmerican Salt LLC at $72.72 per ton and Eastern Salt Company Inc. at $75.80 per ton). A councilor asked whether lower usage during the mild previous winter affected ordering; staff responded that inventories and forecasts guide purchase quantities.
All votes on these items were recorded as passing 4-0.
