The Narragansett Town Council voted 4-0 on Oct. 21 to appoint Narragansett Police Captain Kyle E. Reekas as the town's chief of police, effective Nov. 8, 2024. The motion authorized the town manager to sign an employment agreement after solicitor review.
Town Manager Tierney told the council the appointment followed interviews by a five-member panel that included municipal managers and senior law-enforcement professionals. "I recommend Captain Kyle Reekas for the appointment to the position of police chief of police for the town of Narragansett," Tierney said, describing Reekas's career in the department since 1999 and his promotions through detective, sergeant and lieutenant to captain.
Councilors praised the department and its leadership during the discussion. Several members noted the difficulty of the selection process and expressed confidence in the candidate and in outgoing Chief Sean Corrigan's service. There were no public objections during the meeting; the council moved and approved the appointment by roll-call voice vote recorded as 4-0.
The appointment fills the vacancy created by Chief Corrigan's planned retirement; the council authorized the manager to finalize the employment agreement following solicitor review.
