Narragansett council approves Fire Station 2 and water-quality contracts, several licensing and staffing actions

The Narragansett Town Council voted unanimously on Nov. 18 to award multiple municipal construction and service contracts and to handle routine licensing and appointments.
The council approved a $1,959,144 lump-sum award to Martone Service Company Inc. for Fire Station 2 improvements, including the base bid and two alternates, and a $2,170,900 award to Key Corporation for the town’s water quality improvements project (base bid plus add alternates). Both contracts passed on voice vote, recorded as 5–0.
The council also approved a short-term contract with Ernest Marinaro Jr. to perform electrical inspections for the building official’s office covering Nov. 13, 2024, through June 30, 2025; that motion passed 5–0. A victualing license for Linda’s Diner LLC (909 Boston Neck Road) was approved subject to state and local regulations.
On appointments, the council nominated and appointed Joseph Osterman to the Tax Assessment Board of Review to fill a vacancy through Nov. 1, 2027. The motion to appoint Osterman carried with three votes in favor and two abstentions; several council members said they preferred to leave non-urgent appointments to the incoming council but ultimately voted to confirm Osterman.
Town Manager Tierney also used the meeting to remind residents of boards and commission vacancies and the Nov. 25 swearing-in of the incoming council.
What’s next: The awarded contracts will move forward under their procurement terms; the Osterman appointment is effective as recorded. No additional hearings were scheduled on these contracts during the meeting.
