The North Providence Town Council voted on Sept. 3 to issue a summons to the owners of Osho Sushi Bar after the police summarized several recent incidents tied to the business.
Lieutenant Emerson told the council the department has investigated multiple disturbances since May, including an incident captured on camera appearing to show an individual with a firearm in the rear parking lot, reports of missing juveniles allegedly connected to Osho, and underage hookah use. Emerson offered to present individual reports but told the council that listing each incident in full might take substantial time.
Council members and the town—s legal advisor emphasized the licensee—s due-process rights and asked that police provide documentation to the clerk so the owners could review allegations and prepare a defense. The council then voted to issue a summons for Osho—s owners to appear at the next council meeting (the owner was not expected to be represented that night) and requested police/clerk provide redacted incident reports before the scheduled hearing. The council also voted to move licensing-specific hearings to 6 p.m. before regular meetings to streamline time.
No license revocation or fines were imposed at the Sept. 3 meeting; the council established a formal hearing process so the owners can review evidence and respond.
