The East Greenwich Town Council voted Aug. 13 to continue the probationary Class BB alcoholic beverage license for Sports & Leisure EG through Nov. 30 while the town and the licensee resolve outstanding conditions.
Attorney Kelly Morris Salvatore, representing East Greenwich Restaurant Holdings, told the council that the business has had “no incidents” and has been respectful to neighbors. The attorney and a principal, John Lane, asked the council to lift probationary limitations — including limits on days open and outdoor seating — and said they would address any documentation questions ahead of the December renewal.
Town staff and the solicitor flagged inconsistencies between the license application (which listed 73 seats) and the floor plan submitted (a 61-seat layout with no outdoor seating). Clerk Lee Carney said the 61-seat plan would require 30 parking spaces; the application’s 73-seat figure would require 36. The council also asked for a detailed valet contract that specifies where off‑site spaces will be provided and to add a missing Sunday provision noted in the draft valet agreement.
Police Chief Steve Brown reported there had been no incidents, complaints or safety reports tied to the establishment since the license was issued. Council members said those findings supported keeping the license in place while the remaining administrative issues are corrected.
The council moved to continue the license through Nov. 30; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Next steps include submission of a definitive seating plan matching the formal application, an amended and properly signed valet contract specifying days and the parking location, and clarification of whether the current capacity number establishes a new permissible seating level under prior zoning variances. If the applicant seeks expanded hours, outdoor seating, or entertainment, the town indicated public‑hearing requirements may apply.
