Andrew Wade, director of community services and parks, said the project includes two courts, an ADA walking path around the park, relocated and leveled courts to reduce an existing 9% pitch to about 1.5%, new backstops, fencing and upgraded lighting. Wade said the town received only one bid; he recommended moving forward so work could begin before winter and a binder coat be placed, with final color coat expected next spring if weather permits.
Wade requested authorization for the finance director to advance partial funding as specified in the agenda. The transcript lists partial funding items including $100,110 and $128,551.61 drawn from town capital and recreation funds; the council approved the award and funding authorization by unanimous vote at the meeting.
Wade said the contractor previously completed Academy Fields work and that the town had 27 plan-holders but only one bidder submitted. He told the council the grant deadline for completing work is Dec. 30, 2025, and that getting a binder coat down before winter would keep the project on track.
