RSU 40/MSAD 40 board elects officers and sets committee rules

The RSU 40/MSAD 40 school board completed officer elections at its first meeting of the year, electing Danny Jackson as board chair and Julie Swindler as vice chair.
Danny Jackson was nominated and elected after a motion and second. The presiding officer handed the gavel to Jackson following the vote. "All those in favor of Danny Jackson serving as chair for the new year," the presiding officer asked before the vote was announced.
The board also discussed committee-signup rules and constraints. The chair explained committees will include no more than seven board members; if more than seven members sign up the chair will determine final membership. The business manager said the finance committee preference is to have representation from each town where possible and to limit to no more than two members from a single town.
Members were encouraged to sign up for committees; if the changed committee meeting times later proved inconvenient, the chair said members could ask to be removed. The board approved committee meeting-time adjustments later in the meeting (facilities/transportation at 5:30 p.m. and finance at 4:30 p.m.).
