Council OKs Wilshire Liquor retail alcohol license for Highway 74 location

Peachtree City Council approved a new retail alcohol license for Wilshire Liquor at 1200 Highway 74 South, Suite 8.
Staff explained that state law generally prohibits retail alcohol outlets within 500 yards of one another but provides an exemption when the site held an alcohol license within the previous 12 months; staff said the former Peachtree Bottle Shop held a license at that location within the last year, allowing a new license to be issued. Attorney Michael Sard introduced proposed licensee Ashwin Patney, who the attorney said is a Peachtree City resident with prior experience managing liquor stores.
One resident spoke in favor; no one spoke in opposition. A councilmember moved to approve the license, a colleague seconded and the council voted unanimously to grant the license.
