Council unanimously approved a staff‑recommended construction contract to replace and upgrade several park field lights with LED fixtures, with the apparent low bidder Georgia Power proposed at $920,000, contingent on final technical plan approval.
City Engineer Dave Borkowski described the scope — lacrosse fields, parts of the Field of Hope, some elements at the Pack recreation area and later phases for Riley Field and the Tennis Center — and said staff and the consultant are continuing to resolve photometric and lumen‑level questions to ensure appropriate color and up‑lighting. "For this project, we are recommending that council award this bid to Georgia Power in the amount of $920,000 contingent upon satisfactory review and approval of their lighting plans," Borkowski said.
Council members asked clarifying questions about specific fields included, future phases tied to the RecMaster plan and orientation of slides showing the project extents. After limited discussion the council moved, seconded and approved the award by voice vote.
The award is contingent on final plan approval and the city will proceed with the scope described at the meeting; staff said additional lighting replacements will be evaluated and budgeted in future years as part of ongoing recreation planning.
