Residents and committee members told the Muskego City Public Works and Safety Committee on Oct. 28 that a four‑way stop is needed at the Haven Drive and Joel Drive intersection to protect children and slow speeding traffic.
Longtime resident Robert Ware told the committee he has lived on the corner for 28 years and described children — including his grandchildren — playing and crossing in the neighborhood. "We'd like to see a 4 way stop put in there just to slow it down a little bit before something bad happens," Ware said.
Another resident, Nate Warden, who moved to Muskego last year, said his front yard has become a play hub for neighborhood children and recounted a near miss when a driver failed to stop for a school bus: "If we had 4 way stops in there, that would definitely help... and make I would feel much better about my kids being playing in the front yard."
Staff noted crash history and traffic contacts were limited for the intersection but acknowledged resident concerns and the presence of a school bus stop. Committee members who visited the area said adding two stop signs to convert the intersection to a four‑way stop would force drivers to slow and improve safety for children waiting at the bus stop.
The committee moved to approve the conversion to a four‑way stop; the motion passed by voice vote (transcript records verbal 'aye' responses but does not provide a numerical tally).
Next steps: staff will implement the signage change and monitor results; committee members discussed typical tradeoffs such as additional noise from braking or acceleration after stops.
