Pickens County formalizes tourism agreement with Chamber of Commerce

The Pickens County Board on April 15 voted to authorize the chairman to sign an agreement with the local Chamber of Commerce to provide tourism development services and to receive the county’s hotel/motel tax allocation.
Chair explained the county’s 6% hotel/motel tax has long existed and that two‑thirds (67%) of those collections are designated for tourism promotion; the Chamber has been designated by the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) as the county’s tourism arm, he said. Jordan Davis reviewed the agreement prior to the meeting, chair added.
The board moved and seconded the authorization and approved it by voice vote. The action formalizes an arrangement the county has operated under previously and preserves the established distribution of hotel/motel tax revenues for tourism activities.
