Pickens County approves $64,594 purchase of modular office for airport

At a shortened work session, the Pickens County presiding official presented a request to buy a 10-by-50 modular mobile office from Satellite Shelters Incorporated to provide temporary airport office space while construction of a new terminal is delayed.

Staff described the unit as having two offices, a greeting/waiting area and an ADA-accessible restroom. The delivered-and-setup cost presented to the board was $64,594; the contract copy in the meeting packet lists a base unit price of $55,224 with additional delivery, skirting and accessibility work accounting for the total. "The total cost delivered is delivered and set up to $64,594," a staff speaker stated.

A motion to authorize the purchase was moved and seconded; after brief operational questions about delivery timing and demolition of the existing office, the board approved the purchase by voice vote (members responded "Aye" and the presiding official said there were "none opposed"). The record did not include roll-call vote totals or the names of the mover or seconder.

Staff said if the purchase is approved they will proceed with demolition of the existing failing structure and place the mobile office on the same site, tying into existing utilities. Delivery was described as potentially two weeks from order, subject to scheduling for demolition and haul-off of the old structure.

Clarifying details: the installation plan is to place the unit on the current terminal site to reuse existing electrical, internet, septic and water connections; the county discussed either purchasing the unit outright or having the airport authority purchase it and assume ownership. The decision recorded in the meeting was to authorize county purchase and proceed.
