Board approves hiring of Jeffrey Atkins as executive director of auxiliary services

The Chippewa Valley Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 9 to hire Jeffrey Atkins as executive director of auxiliary services. Superintendent Ron Roberts recommended the hire, saying the position centralizes responsibilities for transportation, custodial and maintenance, facilities planning and student safety that previously fell to other departments. "It covers transportation, custodial maintenance, facility planning, maintenance scheduling," Roberts said, adding the role will allow more proactive maintenance scheduling across the district’s many buildings.
Board members who spoke in favor cited Atkins’ long working relationship with the district and experience in building projects. One board member stated they have known Atkins for more than 20 years and recommended him "very highly." Atkins told the board he appreciated the vote of confidence and that leaving Barton Mallow was a difficult decision after a long career there.
The motion to approve the hire was moved, supported and approved by voice vote; board members signified their support with "Aye," and the chair declared the motion carried unanimously. Roberts said Atkins’ effective start date is to be determined.
Why it matters: The new role consolidates several operational functions, including student safety responsibilities that staff said were not optimally aligned under the prior structure. Questions from the public later in the meeting asked about hiring timelines and compensation for the role; the board did not provide salary details during the meeting.
