Peachtree City council adopts 5.983 millage rate in final public hearing

Peachtree City council held a required public hearing on Oct. 3 and adopted a proposed maintenance and operations millage rate of 5.983 mils.
City staff explained the tax digest grew by 8.6% overall (6.61% from reassessments and 1.99% from new growth). Staff noted the city has reduced millage in the last 12 years by a cumulative 1.195 mils. During public comment Blake Hayes supported adopting the rate, saying Peachtree City’s effective rate remains low compared with other jurisdictions in the county.
Councilmembers debated budget priorities and some said they would prefer a larger rollback; others said the council had already trimmed spending where possible and that the rate is necessary to fund city services, roads and path maintenance. After discussion Councilmember Meeker moved to approve the millage rate at 5.983 mils; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote (ayes recorded; a recorded 'no' by at least one member was noted in council comments). The council therefore adopted the rate and will proceed with the budget as presented.
The council also announced that an executive session would follow to discuss real estate and personnel matters.
