Lindsay told council the applicant had previously sought a continuance while a related city lawsuit proceeded and argued the variance met the ordinance’s criteria (visibility impaired by topography; owner did not create the problem; no safety hazard).
During the public hearing resident Keith Larson opposed the variance, arguing the proposed monument sign would be the first of its kind in Peachtree City and would erode local sign standards and quality of life; he said existing rooftop signage is visible and sufficient. Council discussed visibility, precedent and alternatives (including that an earthen mound could be used to raise a sign without a variance), then voted to deny the variance (motion to deny carried).
