Peachtree City’s Planning Commission approved Aug. 12 a landscape plan for an expansion at 650 Highway 74 South that includes extensive plantings and a tree‑fund contribution.
Staff told the commission the expansion creates about 82,421 square feet of new impervious surface, triggering a requirement for significant caliper inches of canopy and understory trees. The applicant provided an exhibit showing they can plant a portion of the required caliper inches on site and proposed to meet remaining requirements via the city’s tree‑fund alternative.
Planner Laura reported the applicant met 51% of understory and 60% of canopy tree requirements on site and calculated a tree‑fund payment of $51,000.50 as the alternative compliance amount. She recommended approval of the landscape plan with the tree‑fund option.
Fred Howery, identified as president and senior site director for Gersheimer Peachtree City, described the planting strategy and noted berming and evergreen screening in lower‑elevation areas to enhance winter sightlines. Commissioners complimented the plant mix and encouraged additional evergreens in limited sightline locations and around the site sign.
A motion to approve the landscape plan carried by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The planting plan will be implemented as shown or as modified during construction drawing review and the tree‑fund payment will be collected as required by city code.
