Lindsay Jones, Johnson County HR director, told the board the county has received mixed feedback on its current employee assistance program (EAP) and proposed trying Covenant Workspace Solutions for at least one year to assess whether usage and employee outcomes improve.
Jones said key differences include expanding counseling sessions from six to eight, adding four life-coaching sessions, and providing a 24/7 support phone line and an online portal of resources. "Right now, our usage for EAP is less than 2%," Jones said, noting the county hopes to raise utilization and provide more practical supports.
Staff reported Covenant has several local on-site offices and that the company would make some services available to family members. Jones estimated a modest net cost increase (about $15,000 annually) compared with the current vendor and said the County Attorney's Office had taken an initial look at the contract and would perform a deeper review before signing.
Supervisors asked about physical locations, program costs and timelines; Jones said the current contract would remain in place until the end of the year if the county chose not to proceed and that a final decision would occur before the next contract deadline. The item was listed on the agenda for formal action the following day.
