Erlanger receives two medicinal cannabis lottery awards; council cautions county limits may reduce local dispensaries

Council member Mark told the Erlanger City Council that the state recently held a lottery for medicinal cannabis dispensary licenses in Northern Kentucky and that Erlanger "did receive 2 of the 4, medicinal cannabis dispensary licenses, throughout our region in Northern Kentucky." He described the city’s proactive approach as helpful in generating applications and positioning Erlanger favorably for redevelopment.
Mark cautioned that, despite the lottery awards, county‑level constraints may limit the number of dispensaries that can operate in Kenton County. "One of those is not gonna be able we're only gonna be able have 1 dispensary in Kenton County," he said, noting the outcome will influence where redevelopment occurs and how the city proceeds with permitting and buffer‑zone considerations.
City staff and council members discussed that any dispensary ultimately must meet local zoning, buffer and conditional‑use requirements; where a dispensary could appear will depend on those local rules and on broader county limits. Council members described this as a redevelopment opportunity but did not take formal action at the Dec. 3 meeting.
