Tift County previews gateway-sign indemnification and several alcohol-license applications for Aug. 12

At the June 6 Tift County workshop, staff previewed several items set for the Aug. 12 regular session, including a request from the tourism association for indemnification for four gateway signs and multiple alcohol-license applications under new ownership.

County staff said two of the proposed gateway signs would be placed on I‑75 and that an indemnification and hold-harmless agreement is the final step in the permitting process. The tourism-related item was listed as agenda item 5.1 and will return for formal consideration at the regular meeting.

Several alcohol-license applications were discussed as part of the consent-agenda preview. An application for KT Foods at 2710 US Highway 41 South was noted as previously licensed under prior ownership; a commissioner questioned whether the new owner should already be selling alcohol prior to license approval. Staff explained licensing frequently depends on the manager-designation and transaction timing. Another application (item 5.4) for a store at 2554 US Highway 82 was noted as having a sheriff’s review recommending against approval based on the applicant’s criminal-history statute cited in the packet.

No motions or votes were conducted at the workshop; the items were placed on the agenda for the Aug. 12 regular session for formal action.
