Commissioners approve car-wash CUP and a special-use permit for Uptown Tap and Cigar

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners approved two land-use items Sept. 5: a conditional-use permit (CUP-24-3) for a car wash at 7199 Highway 99 and a special-use permit (SUP-24-1) to allow a drinking establishment called Uptown Tap and Cigar at 253 Redfern Village.
Planning staff described the car-wash proposal as three drive-through lanes with 17 vacuum stations on a planned-development parcel near the new Buc-ee's construction. Staff and the Mainland Planning Commission recommended approval with a condition that the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) must sign off on access before any building permits are issued. Jake Lemmings of Robert Civil Engineering, representing the applicant, said the team is coordinating with GDOT and the project will be subject to subsequent site-plan and engineering reviews. The board approved CUP-24-3 with the GDOT-approval condition.
For Uptown Tap and Cigar, staff said the business previously received a provisional alcohol license conditional on completing zoning approvals; the Mainland Planning Commission had unanimously recommended the special-use permit. Because no food is prepared on-site, the location qualifies as a drinking establishment under the county's code. The board approved SUP-24-1 unanimously.
Both approvals include standard follow-up steps: site-plan review and civil engineering review for the car wash and final licensing steps for the drinking establishment.
