Glynn County authorizes bid process and 60-day naming process for Denbury Park walking path

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 5 to authorize a formal invitation for bids to build an approximately 1,141-foot, 8-foot-wide walking path around Denbury Park on St. Simons Island and to begin the county's 60-day naming process for the proposed Jim Brown Walk.
Commissioner Fendig, who presented the item, said the path will give walkers a place to exercise and avoid heavy pedestrian-bicycle conflicts on the island. He also described coordination with the Brown family and a local foundation to accept tax-deductible donations for improvements. "The county is using a hundred thousand to seed into this project," he told the board, and he said he would work with the family and other partners on design and fundraising.
County staff and the county attorney clarified that the board's action authorized entry into the naming process and solicitation of donations, not final approval of a permanent naming or design. The attorney said the family's permission to use likenesses and any final naming authorization will return to the board after the 60-day public-comment period.
Commissioners moved and seconded the procurement and naming-process motions; both measures passed unanimously.
