Glynn County commissioners on Sept. 5 unanimously adopted the county's 2024 millage rates, keeping the maintenance-and-operations rate at 3.864 mills.
Tamara Monson, Glynn County chief financial officer, told the board that although the millage rate is unchanged from the proposed level, rising property values mean the county will collect additional revenue. "Our millage rate is staying the same," Monson said during a presentation on the county's budget and tax-rate process. She said the rollback rate is 3.705 mills and that, on a home assessed at $200,000, the difference between the proposed rate and the rollback rate would be about $13 a year. Monson estimated the county's general fund would realize about $580,000 in additional revenue because taxable values have risen.
Commissioners praised staff for holding the millage near historic lows. One commissioner noted the county's M&O rate is among the lowest shown on the county's multi-decade chart; Monson offered to follow up with comparative Department of Revenue figures. The board also voted to accept the Glynn County Board of Education's adopted millage rate (reported by staff as 14.9 mills), a routine step required for transmittal with the county's property-tax digest.
Commissioners framed the vote as a balance between rising needs and fiscal restraint. After discussion, the board voted to adopt the resolution formally approving the 2024 millage rates.
The commission next will submit the adopted rates with the county digest, and staff said they will provide follow-up comparisons to neighboring counties on request.
