She described conversations with a county engineer (identified in her remarks as Mr. Kappell) about traffic studies and said she believed the county’s request for a GDOT review was appropriate. She cited sections of MUTCD guidance suggesting engineering judgment may justify a traffic signal even when standard warrants are not met.
District Commissioner (Speaker 10) — who said he represents the area — thanked Burdette, said he has had conversations with the police chief about accidents there and proposed requesting the Georgia Department of Transportation to evaluate the intersection. He asked the county attorney to prepare a resolution to request a GDOT study and said the county would seek signatures at the next meeting.
Other commissioners echoed condolences for a family referenced in the comments and urged public involvement during the study request. No formal GDOT study had been requested prior to the meeting; commissioners set in motion staff action to prepare a resolution and submit the request to GDOT.
