Glynn County approves contract with Coastal Law Group for juvenile-court prosecution after DA withdraws services

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 3 approved a contract for prosecutorial services in juvenile court after the district attorney informed counties in the circuit that he would no longer provide those services.
County attorney Mr. Mulford presented the contract with Coastal Law Group LLC to provide prosecution services through the end of the fiscal year. Mulford said the district attorney withdrew juvenile prosecution effective Oct. 1, requiring counties to select their own prosecutors. The agenda listed a prorated amount of $70,000; Mulford stated the annualized figure is $70,008.
Torch Barnhill of Coastal Law Group introduced himself during the meeting and said his firm has experience prosecuting juvenile cases and has coordinated with the court, DA’s office and clerk to transition active matters; he said hearings are being scheduled to resume next week.
A commissioner moved and the board approved a month-to-month agreement through the fiscal year; the vote was recorded as unanimous. Commissioners emphasized the importance of maintaining local juvenile-court services to preserve interventions that county officials said prevent youth placement in state facilities.
County staff and Coastal Law Group will coordinate case transfers and scheduling with the DA’s office and juvenile probation as part of the transition.
