Glynn County approves phased increases to recreation and parks fees, effective Jan. 1, 2025

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners held a public hearing Oct. 3 and approved changes to recreation and parks fees with a phased-in approach for some facilities.

Recreation and Parks Director Lisa Garganis told the commission the fee proposal followed a Sept. 17 work session and that tonight’s public hearing would gather citizen comments. An unidentified resident spoke in favor of the changes but used the opportunity to press the county on an unrelated maintenance and access issue for a 25-acre linear park along the historic canal.

Following public comment, a commissioner moved to approve the recreation-and-parks fee schedule presented in Attachment A but directed that fee increases for Neptune Park, Pastel Park and community buildings be phased in equally over three years, with the increases taking effect Jan. 1, 2025. The motion was seconded and approved unanimously; Commissioner Booker was recorded as voting “Aye.”

Commissioners complimented Garganis on the earlier presentation and noted that fee increases have not been implemented in decades. The commission did not amend the attachment other than the phase-in timing noted at the meeting.

The approved changes will be implemented by county staff with effective date Jan. 1, 2025; the county did not provide an itemized fee table in the public portion of the record but referenced Attachment A in the agenda packet.

The vote closed the public hearing and the board moved on to other agenda items.
