'True Roll' heads to county commission; Glynn County assessors plan homestead review after approval

At the board’s old-business item, the presiding chair reported that the 'True Roll' measure was part of the finance committee’s consent agenda and is expected to be approved by the Glynn County Commission at its first December meeting.
"Once it's approved by the county commission, it's done," Ron Glisson said, describing the next steps. He told the board the commission will release funding or authority and the appraisal office will begin identification work within about a week of that approval.
Glisson gave a scope of the work: about 17,700 properties in the digest are homesteads within a total of roughly 50,000 real-property parcels. "About a third of them have homestead," he said, noting many cases will be straightforward while others will require staff investigation and follow-up during the assessment-notice appeal window.
He warned staff resources could be strained: "The appraisers are so busy right now with growth and then appeals [and] inflationary portions, they're gonna be busy. So we may look elsewhere on staff," he said. The office is considering additional staffing options to handle identification and appeals work.
The board discussed timing and next steps but did not take a separate vote on implementation. Members noted that after county commission approval the department will provide information to the appraisal staff and that property owners will have appeal rights during the standard 45-day window following assessment notices.
