Commissioners approve conditional‑use permit for convenience store and fuel station at Mackenzie Drive

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Oct. 17 to approve a conditional‑use permit (CUP‑24‑7) allowing a convenience store with fuel and automobile service at 101 Mackenzie Drive. Planning Manager Stephanie Leaf described the proposal and said the Mainland Planning Commission recommended approval by a 4–0–1 vote.
Leaf told the commissioners the site plan shows 26 parking spaces, ADA and truck parking but no overnight truck parking, and that full access from Highway 341 would require Georgia Department of Transportation approval. “They will in the future come before the Mainland Planning Commission for a site plan for their actual design and building,” Leaf said, adding that the CUP is for the use only at this stage.
Sandy Owens, appearing for Circle K, said she was available to answer questions about the project. Commissioner Thompson moved to approve the conditional‑use permit; Commissioner Clark seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously.
Leaf noted a question from the chair about why a conditional permit was required in Highway Commercial zoning and said staff would check code rewrite language and follow up with the county manager and county clerk as necessary. The applicant must still submit a detailed site plan for mainland planning review and obtain any necessary GDOT access approvals.
