Public commenters urge fixes to EVIT schedule, transition program partnerships and ParentVUE access

During the meeting's public comment period, three members of the community raised issues for district attention.
Travis Works said students who attend the East Valley Institute of Technology (EVIT) are being affected by a schedule change at Marcos de Niza High School that now has EVIT students arriving in the middle of fourth period. He said the change causes chronic tardiness at EVIT and on early'release Wednesdays and that some students risk losing course credit for required classes when excessive tardies accumulate.
Jody Hernandez, a parent of a student in McClintock's special needs transition/work program, praised Unified PE and culinary opportunities but said a new two'period transition class (replacing a prior program called Success University) reduces partnership variety. Hernandez asked the board to ensure every transition student receives at least two partnerships that match interests, to explore other program models (she cited an example from Utah where a culinary jobs program sustains itself financially) and to confirm the remaining transition program will be of high quality.
Ernest Kirschat asked the district to fix ParentVUE access and content delivery. He said parents did not receive enrollment emails with login credentials, that ParentVUE "doesn't work" for his household, and that teachers do not consistently post upcoming due dates; he requested improvements so families can see what is due the following week rather than only past assignments.
Board members thanked the speakers. Member Barraza asked the MYAC presenters earlier to email their recommendations to the district so staff can review them; during public comment the board did not take immediate action but has avenues to direct staff to study or report back on the issues raised.
