The Tempe Union High School District Governing Board received a business-services update on voter-approved overrides, District Additional Assistance funding and the district's $100 million bond program, and heard details of long-term budget committee personnel actions that the board previously approved.
Mr. Konza reviewed two overrides (a 15% M&O override and District Additional Assistance of roughly $8.7 million per year) and provided a status update on the bond program. He said the district has sold $51 million of the $100 million authorization, expended about $22 million of the sold funds, and currently has roughly $7 million of sold funds without an awarded contract or purchase order. The district plans to return to the bond market to sell the remaining balance (about $48 million) so projects identified by the Citizens Financial Advisory Committee can continue.
On personnel actions, Mr. Konza said the long-term budget committee recommendations — already approved by the board and communicated to affected employees — account for about 60 position changes districtwide: 23 at the district office (19 reductions and 4 transfers) and approximately 37 at school sites. He noted the City of Tempe may pick up some positions previously slated for reduction, but the overall budget savings target included in those recommendations remains unchanged.
President Montero bundled approval of related business items H2–H5 into a single motion, which passed 4-0. The board also approved an ASBA bylaws amendment in new business. After final comments and donation acknowledgments from Vice President James, the board adjourned.
