At its Sept. 19 meeting the Martin County Physical Court highlighted recent community events and economic activity while completing procurement and grant-related business.
Officials praised the Martin County Kiwanis Club and County Attorney Melissa Phelps for organizing the Harvest Festival, and the court noted the inaugural trail ride and an event honoring former judge Victor Sloan. The presiding official said the new trails are expected to support outdoor tourism and local economic growth.
The court also reported that Foothills Internet Corporation has invested about $4,000,000 in local broadband infrastructure and said the arrival of another internet provider will increase competition for service in the county.
On procurement, the court said it had secured $61,000 in grants to purchase two vehicles for the senior citizens center and opened three bids. The transcript records bids for 2024 Corolla Cross SUVs and Chevrolet Trax vehicles; following discussion the court approved the Chevrolet dealer’s bid by voice vote. (The transcript alternately refers to the dealer as "Hutt Chevrolet" and "Hutch Chevrolet;" meeting records should be checked for the vendor’s precise legal name before contract finalization.)
Madison Mooney of the nonprofit Light and Knowledge described a community cleanup planned for October at Warfield Park and the Warfield Community Center in partnership with the Kentucky Waterways Alliance; she offered registration by QR code and in-person sign-up at her office for residents who cannot register online.
What happens next: Court staff will notify the selected vendor and complete procurement paperwork; community partners will continue organizing the cleanup and county staff said they will publicize events and available assistance.
