Martin County court approves staffing change and discusses roads, weeds and ARPA spending

Members then opened the floor to district concerns: multiple magistrates raised recurring issues with roadside weeds and overhanging brush creating driving hazards and asked staff to examine the timing and frequency of contracted mowing and trimming. One member suggested purchasing a tractor or grader and exploring payment timing and use of ARPA funds.
Participants discussed past ARPA spending and suggested reallocating remaining funds toward blacktop/road work, with one member estimating about $1,050,000 of ARPA had been spent and another estimating funds remaining in the area of $900,000; those figures were conversational and not presented as official accounting. The presiding speaker asked county staff to review options and bring recommendations to a future meeting so maintenance could be better scheduled before spring.
No formal motions to reallocate ARPA funds or purchase equipment occurred at the meeting; the court directed staff to examine costs and scheduling and report back.
