County staff told the court the grant covers hazardous-material abatement and cleanup steps rather than a complete demolition. Carly (county staff) said the county received the MOA and the $125,000 grant and that contractors already solicited have discussed the scope and necessary steps. The judge said the structure is dilapidated and a hazard to nearby residents and urged the court to authorize the work.
The court moved, seconded and approved the request to advertise for cleanup and to approve the MOA. Staff said abatement steps would be the county’s responsibility after hazardous-material removal.
Next steps: County staff will advertise the cleanup project and proceed under the MOA; the judge indicated the county hopes the cleared site could be used for a small community center in the future.
