Lake Hermitage residents press council to restore trash pickup after road repairs

Resident Clay Budreuil of Lake Hermitage addressed the Plaquemines Parish Council at the Oct. 10 meeting to press for restoration of regular trash pickup on Cass Lane and adjoining private lanes. Budreuil described repairing the road at his and neighbors’ expense and then being told trash pickup would not resume; he said the logistical burden has fallen on him and others who must ferry cans by boat and replace lost cans damaged by weather.
Budreuil said he collected about $18,000 from 7 of 22 landowners to stabilize the road and that parish staff inspected the repairs. He recounted promised follow‑up visits from operations staff that did not produce lasting results and said his repeated calls went unanswered until a recent administrative text promising a Tuesday visit that did not occur. He asked the council to either restore pickup or provide a documented, reasoned explanation.
Councilmember LaFrance and administration representatives agreed to a Monday meeting with Budreuil and operations staff to inspect the road and determine whether pickup can resume; administration said they would coordinate with the director of operations and return to the council with an update. Council members urged residents to keep open lines of communication with operations and to avoid dumping trash at problematic collection points.
No formal council action was taken at the meeting; staff committed to follow-up and site inspection.
