Council funds repairs to parish fire stations in 5‑year CIP amendment

The Plaquemines Parish Council unanimously (9–0) approved an amendment to the parish five‑year Capital Improvements Plan on Oct. 10 to allocate funds for repairs and complete renovations to parish fire stations that have suffered storm damage and aging infrastructure.
Volunteer firefighters and residents described the worst‑condition stations, including Woodlawn, where speakers said the facility had been underwater and was in need of a full rebuild rather than piecemeal repairs. John Bartholomew, a volunteer and longtime resident, urged the council to restore facilities that had been promised in previous appropriations. Administration and engineering staff said the designer/architect is preparing full remodel plans and that the project was out for bid, and that funding is available for the remodel.
Council members noted the safety and operational importance of investing in fire stations and the need for durable, long‑term solutions. The ordinance amendment passed unanimously and administration said bids would be returned and pre‑construction meetings scheduled.
