County signs interlocal paving deal and seeks federal funds for Mineral Wells bridge

Tom Green County commissioners on March 11 approved two infrastructure actions: an interlocal agreement with the city (COSA) for countywide seal-coat paving for 2025 and a motion to request FY2026 federal community-project funding for construction of a bridge at the Mineral Wells low-water crossing.
Staff presented the interlocal paving agreement with a county cost not to exceed $2,155,034.77; a commissioner said the work should cover roughly 60 road miles this summer. The court moved, seconded and approved the interlocal agreement by voice vote.
Commissioner Nanny asked the court to request federal appropriations (community project funding) for a bridge replacement at the Mineral Wells low-water crossing to address safety and aging infrastructure. He said design work has been advanced with ARPA funds and that a draft application is due in one week; commissioners approved submitting the request to get the project on the list for possible funding, while acknowledging uncertainty in the federal appropriations process.
The approvals were recorded by voice vote with no recorded opposition; county staff will pursue the application and continue design and engineering work for the Mineral Wells crossing.
